Let’s Talk About Eating Smart

Let’s talk about eating smart. One of the things that most patients with neuropathy—and many patients with chronic pain—eating smart by keeping well-fueled and well-hydrated goes a long way towards possibly reducing symptoms and improving the quality of life! Now, the reasons for this are many, and paying better attention to basic body needs dramatically improves the function of our brain and nervous system and thus how we feel.

Paying better attention to basic body needs dramatically improves the function of our brain and nervous system

There are a couple of basic rules that serve most neuropathy and chronic pain patients very well.

First, let’s talk a little about water consumption. An easy rule of thumb is to consume one half your body weight in ounces during a 24-hour period. So if we weigh a hundred and eighty pounds, we should drink ninety ounces of water (or non-alcohol liquids) in a 24-hour period. Remember, coffee, tea, and alcohol can cause us to lose fluid more rapidly, so go easy here. Under no circumstances should diet or other soft drinks be consumed.

Next, the mainstay or proper fueling is eating every 2 to 3 hours maximum. Getting used to smaller meals, and adding low-carbohydrate snacks such as several nuts or one half of an apple or other low-carb fruit can help us feel much better. The reason for this is it helps us maintain normal blood sugar levels and helps us burn fat more efficiently. If you are NOT insulin dependent or on diabetes medication, intermittent fasting may actually be beneficial. Learn way more about diet with the ND Diet Plan.

Eating more frequently as long as it is low in carbs (except within an hour HEAVY exercise) makes us feel better—and helps fuel us much more efficiently.

Carb control is also what helps us fight things like diabetes and metabolic syndrome—that, as you already know, complicate many health problems and make neuropathy and pain worse.

Like everything, there are exceptions to these rules. For example, if you’re insulin-dependent, you need to match your insulin dosage against your carbohydrate consumption very carefully.

Likewise, if you suffer from kidney or heart disease, you may need to be more careful with fluid consumption. Always follow your doctor’s orders. Try these simple suggestions starting today, and see how much better you may feel within just a few days!

The Importance of Having a Pain and Neuropathy Treatment System

Having a pain and neuropathy treatment system provides for more measurable results!

One of the most frustrating things for patients and doctors alike is not having adequate treatment plans for patients who suffer from peripheral neuropathy and chronic pain.Too often, a haphazard approach is taken both by patients and their professionals early on, and the net result is failure, or possibly worsening of the underlying pain and neuropathy. When specific formulas are followed, you know what to expect, and how to measure your progress. Having a pain and neuropathy treatment system provides for more measurable results!

For example, most patients who suffer from diabetic neuropathy know when they keep their fasting blood sugars within a healthy range, their neuropathy reacts much better. Conversely, when blood sugars are out of control due to poor dietary systems the net result is worsening of their neuropathy. And the same holds true for other facets of treatment. For example having a personal system for regular, and scheduled exercise as well as stretching and rest can make a profound difference.

The timing of dietary supplements, and even medications can make a big difference. We know for example that regularity, in terms of time of day and spacing of dosages can make a huge difference for many.We also know that when treating with our homecare pain and neuropathy treatment systems at specific times makes a huge difference and leads to bigger improvements in quality of life.

So if you find yourself not progressing as much as you would like, work more on a system and game plan for yourself. Remember no two patients are the same. Some trial with your Doctors first is necessary to find out what works best for you. But the good news is having a treatment system to follow provides for more measurable pain and neuropathy treatment results!

Pain, Anxiety and Depression

One of the things that is perhaps universal amongst all who suffer from chronic pain and neuropathy is the manifestation of both anxiety and depression.

Unfortunately, neither pain, anxiety and depression receive the attention they often deserve. What you may not know is that part of the development of anxiety and depression is commonly the result of nervous system reactions. These feeings when attended to may actually protect us from further harm. These feelings are very common, and suffered by most neuropathy patients.

But seldom are they talked about honestly and openly with family or clinicians. Yes, quite frankly, this is a mistake.

There ARE a couple simple things you can do immediately that will help. First of all, realize there’s often lots you can control about your health—and some things you can’t. Resign yourself to that fact once and for all. Meditate or pray on this one if need be, as it really helps! It’s one of the great paradoxes of life—however, once accepted as fact, it can make a tremendous difference in your level of mental health and well-being.

And for everything you can change, such as your diet, lifestyle, mental health habits, attitude, et cetera: accept one hundred percent responsibility right now!

Along these lines, there are several other things I suggest to explore. Number one, make sure you have as simple and low stress a lifestyle as you possibly can. Be sure to discuss your feelings quickly, honsestly and openly with your partner, adult children or supportive friends in a position to help. Where these are unavailable, talk with your doctor first, then a trusted friend, clergy member, or social worker!

With severe depression including thoughts of suicide, you need professional guidance immediately! Ask for help, (Call 911) and make sure you get it NOW!

I have seen many patients make extensive progress on the road back to health by simply practicing everything we’ve said in the last three paragraphs.

I have also written extensively about designating enough “Me” time. *It’s a mistake to neglect yourself above others—and this includes parents, relatives, and children.

Above all, recognize you are not alone. I’m firmly convinced that so often sensitization of our nervous system to all the changes that peripheral neuropathy and chronic pain can bring commonly can result in anxiety and depression. Not surprisingly, effective in-clinic treatments first often help turn pain, anxiety & depression around quickly.

This is also why I am convinced EVERY neuropathy and chronic pain patient should own an at home self-treatment kit. Better self-care with less medication can be life-changing to say the least.

You find much more about this as well as our books and other self-help products here at http://neuropathydr.com!

Neuropathy, Pain and Foot Care

Maybe you are overweight, have diabetes or maybe you’ve completed a course of chemotherapy. Or if you suffer from pain or burning in your feet, legs or hands, you’re not alone. More than half the people suffering from neuropathy and foot pain report that they’ve tried complementary treatments in addition to traditional medicine to help relieve their pain and especially improve overall health and well being.

We all need to take special care of our feet and be very aware of any sign of problems. The older we get the more important this becomes. This week let’s talk more about neuropathy, pain and foot care. There are many things you can do daily at home to help you. Here are few to really focus on.

If you are Overweight or have Diabetes tightly control your blood sugar.

This may sound like a no-brainer but many people with diabetes don’t realize how toxic high blood sugar is. High blood sugar is what causes nerve pain and damage. Keeping blood sugar levels close to normal can not only stop ongoing damage; some damage may even be reversible. That provides even more promise for fighting neuropathy pain.

Take Exceptional Care of Your Feet

Nerve pain is usually what brings people in to see their doctors. But the numbness in their feet and inability to feel even the smallest injury can lead to infections and ulceration and ultimately end in amputation. If you suffer from peripheral neuropathy you need pain and foot care. Carefully inspect your feet every time you shower and be very aware of any sign of problems. Some things you can do are:

  • Clean and inspect your feet every day. If you have any irritation or wound that’s not healing properly, get medical care immediately.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. Don’t wear shoes that pinch your toes or rub blisters on your heels.
  • Wear padded socks to cushion the ball of your feet and the heel.
  • Either cut your toenails straight across or have a professional do it for you.

All of these things can go a long way to making your quality of life with neuropathy pain and foot care as good as it can be!

Your Symptoms and Cell Efficiency

One of the things we get asked all the time is, “What makes NeuropathyDR different?” This is a really good question. For anybody who suffers (or loves someone who does) from peripheral neuropathy or another form of chronic pain, it can be very frustrating to sort through all the details. Treating both your symptoms and cell efficiency is how we are able to provide good treatment based in science…but here is what you must realize first:

Significant improvement in the quality of life can happen by making a few simple changes in your diet and lifestyle and adding special combinations of good treatment.

Our background is in health care and nutrition. So, when I first began intensely treating pain & neuropathy patients in 2008, we knew that improving their underlying health—especially how nerve cells process energy—had to help improve many patients’ peripheral neuropathy and other forms of nerve damage or chronic pain. Of course, there are some patients we cannot help. But we do find that even in patients with genetic neuropathies or other extremely difficult-to-treat cases, significant improvement in the quality of life can happen by making a few simple changes and adding special combinations of good neuropathy treatments.

Your nervous system is made up of billions of cells called neurons. Neurons are highly sensitive to their own environmental changes; things like long-term oxygen starvation due to cigarette smoking, or carrying around too much body weight for too long. Our society is now developing diabetes at alarming rate, in younger and younger age groups. This is largely due to poor food and lifestyle choices. We are also living longer, as a byproduct of better infection control, better chemotherapy drugs, and surgeries.

These things all bring with them increased chances for developing chronic and painful conditions such as peripheral neuropathy. The reason for this is, all of the things we have talked about today will affect how our body processes energy—leading to the development of peripheral neuropathy. Wherever possible, helping to restore energy efficiency to nerve cells can make a tremendous difference in many patients with peripheral neuropathy. And that is why our treatment program includes better nutrition and body motion—improving both your symptoms and cell efficiency by adding therapies such as neurostimulation, laser, and physical therapy, often with nutritional supplementation.

Can CoQ10 Really Help With Aging and Pain?

If we could guarantee you improved health, less disease and a better aging process by taking CoQ10, would you do it? When we ask questions like these, it’s always amazing the types of answers we get. Here are just a few responses we’ve heard over the years.

  • How are you going to guarantee that?
  • Why should I trust you?
  • Can you prove it?
  • Is it free?

Now, those may sound like funny answers, but trust us, we’ve heard many of them. So, here we’ll try to give you a hint of how we answer these types of questions. Then, we’ll give you a little background on what CoQ10 is, where it comes from and why it’s beneficial.

Answering the Questions about CoQ10

How are you going to guarantee that?

We’re going to be perfectly honest here. We can’t guarantee that CoQ10 will beyond the shadow of a doubt help every person. We wish! If it were that simple, we’d be handing this stuff out like sugar cubes. After all, our main goal is to help you become as healthy as you can be.

We can tell you, however, that CoQ10 has been studied for its benefits for many years and has shown definite correlation to improved health status. Some individuals have seen their health status improve immensely and others have felt and seen the difference in a worn-out body headed for disease turn around.

So, though we can’t offer a 100% guarantee of effectiveness on all people, we can promise you the likelihood of improved functionality is far greater than doing nothing at all. Also, here’s a last food for thought.

When you take a new pill or a handful, do you have a guarantee then?

Why should I trust you?

We have proven ourselves to you over the years. Our information and education is solid and substantiated in proof throughout our website. Also, the evidence we present can be researched, just like we have done, and is backed up by solid research. We stand behind our recommendations and our word.

Can you prove it?

Yes. We can prove that CoQ10 has helped thousands of people in a variety of ways. Everyone may not be affected the same because each person is looking for a different success. If we are asked does it help everyone, our answer would likely be no because a 100% is seldom true.

What we can tell you is that CoQ10 has great potential to make a significant improvement in your life. There have been hundreds of studies over decades that show many benefits. If you are in your middle years and beyond, you stand a good chance of seeing even greater benefits.

Is it free?

Yes, believe it or not, we do get this question. So we say, “Are most things?” Would you ask a car dealer if that cherry red convertible is free? No, it’s not free, but it is cheaper than being sick and it’s often cheaper than having to buy medications. Besides, you don’t know if those are going to work either.

Now let’s take a quick look at the potential of CoQ10 in your life.

What can CoQ10 do for You?

This is a natural occurring compound in your body. It helps many important functions. The easiest way to understand it is like this:

  • We have little mitochondria in our cells (a bunch of them).
  • Mitochondria help with respiration and energy. (Kind of important).
  • CoQ10 is stored in these little mitochondria.

Now here’s what CoQ10 does:

  • Helps generate energy for our cells (without this we’re in trouble).
  • It’s an antioxidant that protects cells against toxins and other damage like oxidative damage (superhero).
    • If this doesn’t work, disease can easily set appear.
  • Believed to help your body in many ways:
    • Fertility (protects eggs)
    • Skin (protects against internal and external damage)
    • Lessen migraine/headache potency (helps decrease inflammation)
    • Exercise (improved energy and respiration means improved performance)
    • Diabetes (may help with insulin resistance)
    • Heart (protects against oxidative damage and decreases inflammation)
    • Cancer (protects against oxidative damage which causes cancer)
    • Pain (maybe, since it decreases inflammation)

Is CoQ10 for You?

Honestly, this is a question only you can answer. Is it worth it to you so you can feel better, maybe prevent disease and have a better life?

If your answer is yes, you can check out our store where we do have this available. We would also like to invite you over to join our Facebook group where we talk about an assortment of topics. If you have a question, feel free to ask!

Beat Neuropathy Before It’s Too Late

How would you like to say, “I beat neuropathy?”

If you suffer with neuropathy and have for any length of time, you understand pain and suffering on some level. Depending on the type of neuropathy (there are many), the progression, effect, and damage are variable. Likewise, what is not variable is, nerve pain hurts. Another common feature of all neuropathy is, if nothing is done to treat the root cause and sustain improvement, the neuropathy gets worse.

This post brings focus to helping you win against neuropathy. Furthermore, stopping neuropathy before it’s too late is one of the primary focuses of NeuropathyDR. We help you understand how to beat neuropathy as part of our goal. You are an active partner in healing yourself so your healing can be sustained.

Treatment System

One of the most frustrating things for patients and doctors alike is not having adequate treatment plans for patients who suffer from peripheral neuropathy and chronic pain. We find most of the time with our new patients there has never been a real treatment system put into place.

When a piecemeal approach is taken both by patients and their professionals early on, and the net result is failure, or possibly worsening of the underlying neuropathy and chronic pain. Commonly this is the result of a number of factors and too often it’s failure to follow up on early milder issues.

But the good news is when specific formulas are followed, you know what to expect, and we then can know how to measure your progress.

For example, most patients who suffer from diabetic neuropathy know when they keep their blood sugars within a healthy range, their neuropathy and chronic pain improves.

Conversely, when blood sugars are out of control, most often due to poor diet the net result is poor.

And the same holds true for other many other health issues. For example having a personal treatment system including scheduled exercise, a firm diet plan (Get Yours HERE) as well as daily stretching and rest can make a profound difference.

The timing of dietary supplements, and even medications can make a big difference. We know for example that regularity, in terms of time of day and spacing of dosages can make a huge difference for many patients.

We also know that when treating with the NDGen treatment system at specific times makes a huge difference and leads to bigger improvements in quality of life.

So if you find yourself not progressing as much as you would like, let us help you develop a real treatment system or “game plan” for yourself.

Remember no two patients are the same. Some trial and error is necessary to find out what works best for you.

But the good news is having a treatment system to follow provides for more measurable results!

3 Pieces of Better Health

Can it really be this easy? Are there really just 3 pieces of better health? The answer is a resounding yes!

Too often, like so many things we tend to make health and even treatment of certain illnesses more complicated than they need to be. As a regular reader of our materials you understand some of this already but let’s try to put it all together today in a simple fashion.

The first piece of the 3 Pieces of Better Health, in fact the mainstay of better health and yes recovery from illness has got to be diet. A plant based Mediterranean type diet. This diet with very limited, to no animal products, plenty of healthy fats like olive and fish oil and little to no refined sugars is not only perhaps the healthiest diet but also quite likely the best for our brains and nervous systems or what we doctors call neuro-protective. So this has got to be your first priority. If you need a refresher, get your ND Diet Plan HERE

There’s no question no matter where you are that physical activity is paramount to your wellness and recovery from any illness. In fact, simply start where you are! If you’re recovering from surgery for example, use that wheelchair or walker as much as you possibly can. If you are completely mobile, walk whenever you can and in fact avoid sitting for more than 20 minutes maximum any given time. Believe or not these deliberate but simple physical activities when done consistently during our day probably do more for blood flow and strength than any other single thing you can do throughout the day. This includes going to the gym in the morning and then sitting all day on the job or at home.

Finally, so much as the written about mindset and health. Make no mistake about it your attitude, your support system, your interaction with family and those you love go a long way towards ensuring you have this third but key piece of better health. And no it’s not without demanding your own needs are met. Add in daily meditation, regular thought provoking reading and simple downtime and you literally have a lifelong winning combination.

We’ll talk much more about the key chronic pain and neuropathy treatment pieces next time and as you’ll see these 3 pieces of better health slide right in a critical way.

Finally, please don’t make your life or health plan more complicated than it is!

Just think of all the time, money and energy you’ll save by simply becoming self sufficient with your shopping and diet, exercising at home and daily mindset & self-care!

Physical Activity, Neuropathy and Chronic Pain Patients

While your pain may make any kind of physical activity the furthest thing from your mind, a good clinician can greatly increase your potential for rehabilitation. Your neuropathy does not have to be a life sentence.

Peripheral neuropathy affects virtually every patient differently. Some neuropathy patients suffer strictly from nerve pain, some have issues with numbness, and still others have issues with mobility or some combination of symptoms.

Any neuropathy symptom can make functioning and carrying on a normal life virtually impossible.

If you suffer from any of these issues:

· Pain
· Weakness or numbness
· Increased nerve sensitivity
· Abnormal gait when you walk
· Decreased endurance
· Limited range of motion
· Difficulty keeping your balance
· Problems with bracing yourself
· Joints that are stiff or contracted…

A good therapist, chiropractor, or osteopathic physician may be able to help you.  Clinicians who specialize in treating neuropathy patients, like our NeuropathyDR® therapists and chiropractors, will have a strong knowledge base when it comes to addressing whatever your particular neuropathy symptoms happen to be.

What To Expect

We will do a complete history and physical, and find out where you need the most assistance and what course of treatment will work best for you. Therapy can be a crucial step to increase the likelihood of rehabilitation from your peripheral neuropathy.

Be sure to find a clinician with expertise in treating neuropathy patients.  A qualified clinician will be able to develop a treatment regimen that won’t make your neuropathy symptoms worse.

One thing to remember – in order for your insurance to pay for therapy treatment, you will more than likely need a prescription from your treating physician.

Therapy Treatment Options

Some clinicians will attack your particular issues directly or they may opt to work indirectly and work around the underlying problem to first address whatever your particular deficits may be.  If you have balance issues, they may work to build your muscle strength and allow you to be more grounded.

Every patient is different.  What worked for one may not work for the next.  A good clinician will take the time to fully understand your particular issues and prescribe a treatment regimen that addresses the areas where you need the most assistance and that will show the best opportunity for improvement.

If you’ve never sought treatment before, you may not really understand what they do.  Here are some basic treatment techniques used in a therapy regimen that might help you:

· Soft tissue manipulation techniques
· Peripheral and/or spinal mobilization
· Thermal treatments
· Electrical stimulation
· Ultrasound
· Near infrared phototherapy
· Balance systems
· Individualized therapeutic exercise
· Functional activities

Seeing an expert can give you a chance at a positive outcome and improve your ability to function normally. Give yourself every opportunity to get your life back and live beyond your peripheral neuropathy and chronic pain issues.

We hope you found this information helpful and you take steps today to find a NeuropathyDR® practitioner in your area. Be an informed patient.
